Who will win this year's Totally Stockport Krazy Races?
16 May 2023

The Batmobile, a giant Robinson Brewery beer bottle, a Space Rocket, a Tesla and Postman Pat's famous red Van were just a few of the 30+ soapboxes being put through their passes at Saturday's Krazy Races Scrutineer event hosted by OCU at their head office in Stockport.

Totally Stockport Krazy races soapbox derby; will take place on Sunday 28th May. The event is completely free to attend with thousands of locals expected to attend. The event will see teams race down St Peter's Square, past the iconic Stockport Plaza to Mersey Square. The event will have attractions and stalls from local Stockport businesses including an appearance from Robinsons Brewery’s beautiful Shire Horses and OCU’s flagship Grab Wagon.

Saturday's Krazy Scrutineer day was the organisers first opportunity to meet the teams and the teams first opportunity to check out the competition.

Danny Scoffin from Krazy races added; “Since announcing our Stockport event last year, we have been overwhelmed by the reaction and support of local teams and businesses who have supported us to make this event happen.

Saturday was our first chance to meet the teams and see their fantastic creations in person and wow did they deliver! Every soapbox is so different but all are really iconic. This event is not one to miss.

We would like to say a massive thank you to our scrutineer GST (Graham Sparey-Taylor) from the University of Wolverhampton who made sure all our soapboxes were race ready and OCU who hosted the event for us. We are so grateful for all their support and hospitality.”

In addition to giving thousands of locals a great, free day out to remember, organisers are also hoping to raise over £10,000 for headline charity ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ and other local charities.

OCU, the hosts of Saturday’s Scrutineer event told us; “It was a pleasure to support the Krazy Races team by hosting the Scrutineer event last Saturday, and offered an ideal opportunity to network with the other teams and size up the soapbox competition! Furthermore, we’re proud to be one of the main sponsors for the main event, namely the ‘Pit Area’ sponsor, which has allowed us to both take part by entering our own team, and to donate our additional team entry to our chosen charity; ‘Cash for Kids’. We thoroughly look forward to this brand-new Stockport event for what should be an exciting and all-round fun and family-friendly day”

After Stockport, Krazy Races will be travelling to Swansea, Northwich, Wolverhampton and Lancaster. Team spaces are open for all locations.
