WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR is Stockport HEADLINE CHARITY
01 Feb 2023

TOTALLY Stockport KRAZY RACES UNVEILS WHEN YOU WISH UPON A
STAR as HEADLINE CHARITY PARTNER
Krazy Races, the popular, free to attend national soapbox derby, confirmed local
children's charity, When You Wish Upon a Star (North West), as its headline charity
partner at a press event held at Robinson Brewery.

This May, the national award-winning soapbox derby event, that welcomed over
50,000 people across three events last year, is sponsored by the town’s Business
Improvement District (BID), Totally Stockport, and is set to Totally take over the
town centre on Sunday 28th May. The event will see a mixture of local and
business teams build, design and race weird & wacky soapboxes through the
town centre while raising money for its charity partner.

Since the event's creation back in 2018, Krazy Races has raised over £40,000 for
local charities and good causes. Every team who enters a soapbox, raises money
for a local charity close to their heart, with the main event backing a headline
charity partner who has a big presence on, and leading up to, the day.

In 2022, Krazy Races partnered with national charity Macmillan Cancer Support for
all its summer events. The partnership enabled the charity to collect and receive
funds through various revenue streams, including car park donations and monies
raised from event brochure sales, as well as hundreds of pounds through cake
sales and raffles. The final total for the year for Macmillan and other local charities
reached over £30,000.

Danny Scoffin, Head of Marketing for Krazy Races explains:
“Our Krazy Races events are all about raising as much money for local charities as
possible while giving families a fantastic free, fun day out.
“We work closely with our headline charity partner to help integrate them to the
heart of the event, giving them as many opportunities as possible to raise as
much as they can!

“Our event is all about giving people of all ages a bit of magic and a unique
experience. When You Wish Upon a Star is the perfect charity partner for us; the
work they have done over the years giving very poorly children magical
experiences is inspirational. We are over the moon to be working with such an
incredible charity and are looking forward to working closely with them over the
coming months.”

Megan Finch, Community Fundraiser from When You Wish Upon a Star’s North
West offices in High Lane, said:

“We are so excited to be working alongside the team at Krazy Races on their
brand-new Stockport event!

“The charity is celebrating 25 years of being in Stockport and have received such
incredible support throughout this time from the local community and businesses
based in the town and its surrounding areas.

“Our mission at When You Wish Upon a Star is granting the Wishes of children
living with life threatening illnesses and bringing a little bit of magic to their lives
when they need it the most. This goes hand in hand with the amazing events that
the Krazy Races throw and we are looking forward to bringing a bit of magic to
Stockport together!’

Paul Taylor, BID Manager from Headline Sponsor Totally Stockport, is delighted
that this year’s event has already attracted over 30 soap box teams who will all be
frantically racing down one of Stockport’s steepest streets to take the coveted
chequered flag:

“As a BID, we are tasked with hosting events and managing projects that will
attract visitors into the town centre and benefit the local businesses. We have
never seen the likes of Krazy Races in Stockport before, so we are anticipating
huge crowds and excited to be working with the Krazy Races team. Not only will
this be a fantastic event for everyone, it’s also great to know that such a special,
local charity will benefit and be able to give some extra special magic to the
children supported by When You Wish Upon a Star.”

Totally Stockport Krazy Races will be coming to Town on Sunday 28th May with
headline sponsor Totally Stockport before visiting Swansea on Sunday 18th June,
Northwich on Sunday 16th July and Lancaster on Sunday 17th September. Limited
team spaces for all events are now open.
