Totally Stockport KRAZY RACES UNVEILS 2024 Headline Charities at Robinsons Brewery Launch event

Krazy Races has unveiled The Christie Charity and St Ann’s Hospice as its 2024 official headline charity partners in front of teams and local businesses at an official event launch hosted by Robinsons Brewery.

During the launch event (held on Friday 15th March), several soapbox teams were in attendance, along with local businesses. Organisers outlined details of the event with organisers exclusively announcing the date and location of the Krazy races Scrutineer day where teams meet up pre race day for safety checks. The scrutineer event will be returning to PIT Area sponsors OCU Group on Saturday 22nd June.

Krazy Races, the popular, free to attend, national award winning soapbox derby event is returning to Stockport on Sunday 28th July by popular demand, after welcoming over 15,000 people at its inaugural event in May last year. The event is looking for a maximum of 40 teams made up of locals and business teams who will; build, design and race weird & wacky soapboxes through the centre of Stockport past the Iconic Stockport Plaza.

Sarah Belcher, founder of Krazy Races, explains why selecting charities as event partners is critical:

“The driving ethos behind Krazy Races is rooted in our charity partnerships. 2023 was a record-breaking year for us with our events raising over £100,000 for charitable causes, including £20,000 for Stockport charities.

“Our ambition is to raise even more this year; through our partnership with both The Christie Charity and St Ann’s Hospice, we are confident that this is more than achievable with our 2024 partnerships, two household names that have made such a positive impact on the lives of so many people within Stockport.”

Jen Kent, Community Fundraising Officer at The Christie Charity said:

“We’re proud to be one of the official headline charity partners for this unique family-friendly festival. Not only will this be a special day of creating memories, but the money raised for The Christie will directly benefit Stockport residents, providing crucial support and resources to those in need.”

Marie Foster, Innovation and Digital Fundraiser at St Ann’s Hospice said,

“We’re honoured to be chosen as one of the headline charity partners for this, the second Krazy Races in Stockport.  We’re excited to be working with Krazy Races and look forward to what promises to be another fantastic day for all the community.  The money raised for St Ann’s will go towards St Ann’s Build it together appeal for a new hospice in Heald Green, directly benefiting Stockport patients and their families.”

Rhys Owen, Chair of Headline Sponsor, Totally Stockport, is pleased to be bringing the event back to Stockport:

“Last year’s inaugural event attracted huge crowds of all ages into the town centre, a perfect opportunity for everyone to see all the great changes that are taking place here. Hardly a week goes by when there isn’t a new café, bar, restaurant, or retailer popping up somewhere across the town.

“We’re confident that, now word is out there that it’s back, even more businesses will want to take part in what really are absolutely ‘Krazy Races’ and spectators will be excitedly waiting to see who survives the chicanes, the hairpin bends and who makes it to the finishing line.”

Cllr Colin MacAlister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, added:

“Krazy Races has really made its mark in Stockport, and the fact that they are raising much needed funds for these two very worthy charities makes it even more worthwhile, with many Stockport people and their families benefiting as a result.”

Event organisers are looking for a maximum of 40 teams to enter the race in a knockout style competition with multiple trophies and prizes. Applications for team entries are open but limited spaces remain. Applications will automatically close once the maximum 40 team threshold is reached.
