Krazy Races, the highly anticipated free-to-attend soapbox derby event, stunned attendees at a pre-event meet-up this week with a groundbreaking announcement for Crewe!
The launch event at Crewe Lyceum Theatre on Tuesday 16th April brought together several of the 40 soapbox teams and local businesses, filling the venue to capacity with eager participants.
Organisers exclusively revealed that BBC’s flagship Children's TV show, Blue Peter, will be in Crewe for the entirety of the Krazy Races event to film and compete. Two presenters from the hit show will be working with two groups of youngsters within the event village of Badger Park to customise their soapboxes, before the presenters take to the track during the event’s lunch break to race against the clock to see who will win. All of this will be captured by the BBC camera crew.
Organisers also took the opportunity to reveal further exciting details about the upcoming event and introduced the event's headline charities, Hopes & Beams and St Luke’s Hospice, which were selected through a public vote earlier this year.
Attendees were given an exclusive preview of the official event map and front cover brochure artwork (featuring Crewe landmarks) and the event timetable.
Krazy Races, a renowned and award-winning national soapbox derby event, will descend upon Crewe on Sunday, July 14th, with an estimated 20,000 attendees anticipated. The event has just three remaining team spaces out of the maximum 40 teams expected to participate.
Danny Scoffin, one of the event organisers, expressed his excitement about this collaboration with the BBC, stating;
“When the BBC reached out to us with the opportunity to be involved we were over the moon. Blue Peter is a British institution and holds a special place in our childhood memories. Our Crewe event has brought together so many incredible local businesses and as a resident of Crewe myself, I am delighted that this very special opportunity will give our businesses and charities the extra exposure they deserve to showcase all the fantastic work they do for Crewe.”
A spokesperson at Crewe Town Council commented:
“It’s been great to hear about all the teams that will be taking part and we now have the added excitement of the BBC joining us from Blue Peter! We hope that the Crewe community enjoys this event and welcomes all the visitors to Crewe.”
